Learning Yoga from a DVD Is Not So Bad After All
My yoga instructor is having a baby soon, so for a few weeks I’ve been trying to do yoga on my own using DVDs that look more like VCDs.
Some things that I don’t possess as a yoga practitioner, other than motor skills, is a strong memory to remember all the movements and an ability to listen carefully to the narrator’s lulling voice. Every ten seconds I have to look up to the screen and see what the instructor is doing. It means I am not in the perfect, required positions which determine how effective my exercise is.
And then I would laugh because I imagine what I look like striking my own ridiculous pose and then laugh at the instructor’s distracting poking nipples and at the ridiculous scene of fountains and cats behind her. I always feel so good after it, and I’m starting to wonder whether it actually is healthier for my mind.
